There's an old elevator open to the public in the Rathaus (Townhall) in downtown Stuttgart. Dad and I visited it during his trip! It's called a Paternoster. You can see more information about the mechanics and remaining locations around the world at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paternoster.
